Bridge of Allan had only two churches, Logie and Lecropt until the “great disruption” movement swept Scotland in 1843. Followers of Erskine and Gillespie were relatively few and joined forces to create the U.P.church. Those following Chalmers became the Free Church.

Villagers who were adherents of the United Presbyterian Church, first met in cow sheds, then the Reading Room. Additional funds were canvassed and their first place of worship was built on the site which later became the foot of Well Road, later affectionately known as U.P. Brae. The new sanctuary was inaugurated in the autumn of 1849,which served the congregation for 50 years. Its longest serving Minister the Rev.James Muir, (1851 to 1891.) Jubilee celebrations were held as a Memorial to the 50 years 1848 – 1898. By then Mr Muir was too old and frail to say much ; he thanked God with a grateful heart for having spared him in life to see the jubilee of his beloved Church. Mr Muir was encouraged to sit for a portrait of himself which was entrusted to Mr Gibb, R.S.A. and it was presented to Mr Muir at a soiree held in the Museum Hall on Wednesday 28th January 1898. A subscription surplus of £160 was also handed to him. He enquired as to if he could do as he wished with the money, “certainly” he was told, “what pleases you pleases us” ; thus it was he gave the money for a foundation stone for the new U.P. church and to establish a fund for the building of a new larger church. The first church was a beautiful little church but as the years passed it proved too small for the increasingly large congregation.

Sufficient money was raised to enable a new church to be built on the same site and opened in 1898. The new church was a handsome building, octagonal in shape with fine woodwork and ironwork. After WW2 it was in poor structural shape and it was demolished in 1948.

In 2014 the open space was re-landscaped and made into an attractive public open space for the community.
