During this week the interest of the Lawn Tennis world has centred at Bridge of Allan where, on the magnificent grounds of
Stanley House School the thirty-first annual Lawn Tennis Tournament for the Championships of Scotland is being held.

This is the first time those important contests have been held at Bridge of Allan, but so suitable and so popular has the
ground proved that there is every likelihood the Tournament week will become an annual fixture. For the various events entries number considerably over four hundred, being more than double the entry at Moffat, where the championships
were decided last year.

For five glorious years, the best players from Scotland and beyond converged on Bridge of Allan for a week each summer, including a number of international stars.

In July 1908, for instance, the men’s singles and doubles titles were both won by the Canadian Robert Powell, who had been a Wimbledon semi-finalist and competed in the London Olympics the previous month.
